Strawberry Wine - My Bloody Valentine
There are so many songs by My Bloody Valentine that I will want to choose as my favourites but this one seems the most perfect to start with. It reminds me of when I left home in a bit of a rush when I was 20 years old. I had to doss down for a couple of weeks at my big sisters house in Shildon until I finally got myself to Flat 7 at 28 the Market Place in Bishop Auckland, it was called a flat but it was just a bedsit , a room no bigger than 16 x 10 , and anyone who ever visited me there would testify it was a touch on the tiny side. But it was where I lived for about 2 years , having probably the best time of my life. I had a girlfriend, there was lots and lots of gigs to go to and lots of great records to buy and I wrote a fanzine about all of that. I was happy a lot of the time. Strawberry Wine opens with noisey (acoustic?) guitar, then the drums stop for less than a second and in comes the hushed voice of Kevin shields and the harmonies of his new girlfirend Bilinda....... "Misty morning in the springtime". It takes me back to having no-where to go, my sisters house wasn't very big, so I used to walk around the Park (or the Rec as the locals call it) in Shildon, taking polaroids of misty mornings and using them as a cover for a demo cassette that I sent to Sarah records , Matt did write a nice letter back saying how he wished me luck with my future musical endeavors but the Honeydew Wonders weren't what he was looking for, oh well. .
